Auntie's Bookstore

If the lobby of the historic Davenport is still Spokane's living room for socializing then the great hall at Auntie's Bookstore at Washington and Main is the den where the exchange of ideas and possibilities takes place.

The high-spirited woman behind this local institution is Chris O'Harra, a former teacher from Oregon. Chris and her brother-in-law Shannon Ahern opened for business as the Book and Game Company in the Flour Mill, and in 1993 after buying the Liberty Building opened Auntie's.

Besides the bookstore, the building hosts the Liberty Cafe, uncles Game Store and an array of local artists and crafts shops.

Auntie's author readings often draw hundreds of people to the store in the evenings, with such authors as regional favorite Sherman Alexie. The bookstore publishes its newsletter every other month and the latest information about events and specials at the store can be found on their website.
