Neighborhood of the Year Nominations

Nominations are now being taken for a Neighborhood of the Year award made every year by the Neighborhood Alliance.

The awards will be announced at the "Celebration of Neighborhoods" fundraiser auction (see above), held at Lindell and Bart Haggin’s farm on the Little Spokane River.

Neighborhoods - or those who know about outstanding neighborhood efforts - effectively working to enhance and sustain our communities through neighborhood advocacy and/or to create local work and recreational opportunities should apply.

ALL nominations will be highlighted on the Neighborhood Alliance web site.

The neighborhoods selected for award recognition will be honored the night of our auction event, on our web site, and in the newsletter.

Nominations should be made for neighborhood-based efforts to improve, protect or restore our communities - and thereby build a better greater Spokane. For example, "trail blazing," park creation, watershed restoration, historic preservation, advocacy to preserve some special neighborhood place, neighborhood planning, or any other community-building processes.

The deadline for submission of nominations is June 15th.

Please send your entry documentation to the Neighborhood Alliance of Spokane at 35 W. Main, Suite 240, Spokane, WA 99201, or submit it by e-mail by clicking here.

Please include the following in your nomination letter:

• Your name and contact information (including e-mail address and phone number)

• Neighborhood name and contact information

• Nomination narrative, including a description of the neighborhood's community-building efforts and accomplishments to date and why they deserve to be an award recipient.

• Any additional supporting material (i.e. newspaper clippings, pictures, testimonials etc.)

We eagerly await your nominations!

Welcome to the Neighborhood Alliance

We find innovative, practical ways to address and solve the most urgent neighborhood land-use problems because the neighborhood is our special interest!

The Neighborhood Alliance is an alliance of concerned neighborhood communities and individuals committed to improving uses of land, natural resources and energy so that nature, our environment and our quality of life are sustained or improved rather than depleted or degraded.

We help plan, implement and monitor ways businesses and governments can improve and preserve our neighborhoods.

The Neighborhood Alliance uses an inclusive, collaborative process to provide a collective voice for neighborhoods as we work to influence decision-making at all levels toward our goal of an improved quality of life for this region.

Our goals are to:

Join hands across city and county neighborhood boundaries

Seek accountability and promote ethical behavior from elected and appointed officials

Empower ordinary citizens and neighborhoods by providing informational materials and educational workshops

Inform officials and others about reasonable, alternative public policy designed to promote quality of life in our neighborhoods

We encourage individuals, neighborhood groups, and interested organizations to become members of the Neighborhood Alliance to not only stay informed about issues, but also to learn about new publications, workshops and events we may hosting in your area.
